CyberSafety

I have just finished completing the Cybersafety professional development slides and learnt so much from reading and listening to professionals who know so much about what’s going on on the internet.  +chloe kam  as also mention about it.
I am going to quickly recap and compress important information that stood out to me in these four modules.

Module 1: Connected world of students
- Children read more on the internet than actual printed texts
- Students we teach now never knew a world without internet
- Web2.0 is a powerful tool a a time when young people are working out who they are and what they want to be, that’s why teacher’s and parents need to assist them wisely.
- Nothing beats face to face communication
- Technology may at time impact on losing essential skills to communicate face to face

Cybersafety:
- Young people are dealing with images not real people, this makes young people create profile on what they want to be not necessarily who they really are.
‘in a connected world, how are you connecting to your students?’

Module 2: Online safety issues & how a teacher can help
- Grooming: someone pretending to be someone else who will later perform sexual actions
and  provocative images
- Cyberbulling: someone is bullying with the intent to hurt that person
- Cyberagression: a one off (think its funny) remark that may hurt that persons feelings
- Hacking: someone who uses your account and posts inappropriate comments
- Teachers need to influence students’ poositive behaviour by determining how to best deal with unsafe behaviour, from the connect.ed website they listed these strategies to teach students how to:
  • block senders in chat rooms and social networking sites
  • change their social networking profiles
  • keep passwords secret and mobile numbers private
  • not reply to nasty messages and/or block the sender if they are in a contact list
  • if the bullying persists, tell someone they trust
  • help them to list trusted people
  • keep any hostile messages sent by IM or SMS, print out any text, web content or emails and keep links to web pages or user names in IM
  • use website reporting tools to report cyberbullying
  • visit the Cybersmart Online Helpline for free and confidential online counselling or call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800

Module 3: How the school plays apart in Cyberbullying
- It is important to know the school policies on Cybersafety
- Students need to understand (at their level) how technology should be used
- Cyberbullying happens outside of school when students have the time to be on the internet, it is the schools responsibility and duty of care to attend to these happenings.
- Parents play a role so they need to understand what is happening online
- When the whole school community, school leaders, teachers, students and parents are all integrated this can help create safe online behaviours.
- Some more Strategies can be found here.

Module 4: Useful resources
- The Cybersafety website has collated and created useful resources that can be used at any age level.

I hope this is useful for you guys! Have a nice day

Assignment 3 Understanding

Assignment 3 makes me feel stress. There is so much to do. This what I understand from my point of view.

From my understanding, Assignment 3 are contains of 4 parts:-

1) Learning Journal (5%) – The component is similar to the learning journal from assignments 1 and 2.

2) The Preparation and Planning (10%) – the context of my professional experience and the approach of ICT integration which around 500-1000words.

3) Lesson Plan (5%)- include 5 lesson with reflection that we have taught during our professional experience.

4) Evaluation and Lesson learned (20%) – to evaluate the integration of ICT during my Professional Experience and identify lessons that I  need to apply for your future teaching which around 1000-1500 words.

I hope I’m on the right track and I’m now on the progress of the assignment. I do hope that I can finish up my assignment on time while doing my practical.

The Letter Land Program

When it comes to phonics class, I used to hate phonics lesson. I did not like to teach the children this lesson. After seeing the program that Summer Academy had which is The Letter Land ; the children in my class will go hyper as I loved the way the letter is taught to the children, the story and the song which is so interesting and exciting to learn. I had actually enjoyed teaching  phonics to the children. The  learning was fun and interesting as they made animation for it with sound where the children could watch the animation and read-a-long with the sound! Instead of hearing me pronouncing the sound of each letters, they could actually "see" and "hear" what the sound of the letter from the video.

One of Sanna's post - Phonics made fun had actually give me an idea of bringing my iPad to the classroom to teach phonics as well It is a good idea and would implement it in my future lesson.

Interactive whiteboard Experience

It was my first experience using Interactive Whiteboard before using it to teach the children a lesson. I was given the chance to play and work around it after school hours during Practical to get used  to it. I am consider an Interactive Whiteboard zero exposure person because I have 0% knowledge on it and 0% exposure to it as well. The school principal and teacher are kind enough; therefore I did not want to miss this chance of exploring Interactive Whiteboard.

The desktop of Interactive Whiteboard is exactly the same as computer/laptop desktop  and all you got to do is just click on the SMART NOTEBOOK icon and the software will just pop right open. Everything is touch screen, you can just use your finger to touch it or you can just use the smart marker pen (I have no idea what it called).

Basically, it is like our smartphones. You can go online watch Youtube, Draw pictures on the screen. To be honest, I think I still have to work around with  more and learn how to create interesting lessons. I have tried on some examples provided in the Interactive Whiteboard folder. It was interesting and fun. I wish that my teacher used Interactive Whiteboard during my school days to teach.

I love Printerest

I have started to use Pinterest recently. I did not know about this site until I read about it from one of my course mate blog ; sannaahmad .  I am starting to fall in love with this website;   because there are a lot of stuffs you can find from there.

Pinterest is a website and tool for collecting and organizing things that you love. You would be thinking  what is so wonderful about it? You can just be so organize with Printerest; with titles of things you like according to folders, add pictures or documents of your own/downloaded it from the net.You can organize and categorize things that you like according to boards. You most likely have no problem with organizing things as well.

However, with Pinterest, you can just search anything from the site and if you see anything you like and want to save it for future reference, just PIN it. It will forever be there in your board. People around the world can view all things that you love and pin it back as well. I have got to say the moment I start using Pinterest, I can’t stop to PIN lots of stuff.

I believe as educators, we can use this tool for young children. Each class can have a Pinterest account and children can share and pin what they like. Children can also upload pictures to share with others too. I believe that children will love Pinterest like I do.

Click on ,Sign up  and Try this WEBSITE. Printerest
I BET YOU WILL NOT REGRET! ITS SO INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL.. ;)

Its Parents Day

Today was Parent Day in school for the 5 and 6 years old children. The children were really excited and well prepared for the day. The parents were so eagerly waiting for the children to perform and I had wonderful experience with the children.  I could see how ICT has impact in the children lives and also the parents. Using the radio to turn on the song they were about to sing during the “Parents Day and the parents taking out all their hand phones and I pad to capture pictures of their children and dancing. It was a joyous environment at school . +Abigail Jaraja my course mate  as also mention about it. As we both are doing particular in the same place.

The Comparison Between Computers and Tablets

  vs

During a conversation with my friend +Abigail Jaraja .It stir up my thinking when she asked me;

Will you use tablets or computers to teach children? Why?

For me, I believe that tablets will never substitute computer. Definitely, I follow the trend by purchasing a tablet or use one for my future preschool but still I will not extinct computer. In fact, I will still use computer in my preschool because; I just got to say there is a balance for everything. New technology arises does not necessarily mean ending the old technology. Children still need to use computer, explore and learn; the knowledge of parts of computer and using it. This means that if the child knows how to use an iPad, it does not mean that the child will know how to use a computer. Using an iPad is easy which only require our finger to touch on it, and a button to on and off it. However, computer is very much different where children need to know what they must press or click to shut down the computer, and using all the different buttons on the keyboard. But both these technologies, helps children enhance their eye-hand coordination where they have to look at the monitor and using their fingers.

What do you guys thinks? Feel free to share.

Practical on the Way

After, I have gone through; on requirement needed for practical. I am excited to start practical as; I love using ICT to teach. It is surely going to be a fun experience and great learning process; 15 days in a new school environment.
Besides that, my practical is pretty soon, which is tomorrow.  I will try my best to provide interesting activity for the children. I surely got to start on assignment 3 earlier so that, I will not be rushing last minute. My assignment is divided into 4 parts; Learning Journal, Preparation, Lesson plan and Evaluation. I should start preparing part B so I would have a clear start on what am I going to do with the children.

ICT a Great Tool in Supporting Children with Special Needs

Doing Unit Plan made me realize or I ponder that; ICT can be  a great learning tool to support children with special needs. It helps to enhance children’s learning and promote independent learning. Furthermore,  the help of ICT tools, children will longer depend on people’s help and this would be able to increase student’s self esteem. Apart from this, I have read an article about “How ICT support students with special educational needs.”

There were four aspects to the ways in which ICT influences upon the ways to work with students with special educational needs. Here are the aspects you can consider thinking and pondering upon:

1) How you teach ICT to students with special educational needs.

2) How ICT supports your teaching of students with special educational needs.

3) How ICT supports special educational needs student’s learning

4) How ICT supports your professional development with regards to special educational needs.

This article would show you few of the aspects and explanation on
“How ICT support students with special educational needs”?

Lastly, I would like say that “ICT is really very good tool to enhances learning for students with special needs

Starting With Assignment 2; 5E

I came across this 5E Model  as it was mention in my classroom during lecture that; I felt it was suit for me to used in my unit plan. The 5E’s is an instructional model based on the constructivist approach to learning. Furthermore,  5 E Model is good guide for teacher; a framework to inform conversations and guide the observation, critique and reflection of classroom practice (Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, 2013).  Below are some information about the 5 E;

You can read and find out more about the 5E Model with the link provided.

Technologies play a major in our lives today; I Cant Live Without it

Technology advancing and upgrading very fast these day;  it’s so hard to keep up at times ! Even if it is so hard to keep it, Technologies play a major in our lives today and we cant live without them.

There are some technology that we certainly can not live without it. Especially me;

1. The Hand phone
The Handphone or the advance hand phone which we call smart phone. Everyone will be fully agree to this statement. Who don’t use hand phones nowadays?  Everyone has them, and we use them everywhere, for everything! In this era, we do not just talk on them, we can check e-mail, buy plane tickets, text, and more!

2. The INTERNET
Ever thought of what was it like when the world before the Internet? Probably a lot more quiet, and a lot smaller because we only can see and read or heard about things there is within our reach.
Those were the days were using magazine and newspaper  to find information. Besides that, when we need to send a letter; we have to go to the post office to send the letters. And now, we can do everything online. There’s email, online banking, blogging, telecommuting, shopping, social networking, and a lot of time wasting online games.

3. GPS (Global Positioning System)
For me, I am always afraid to drive out on my own because I am afraid that I might lost my way (which it happen most of the time). With GPS, and the new app which is call WAVES getting lost has never been a worry to me. All I need to do is Just type the location and there you go; I will get to the place I want to go easily.

Surely,  there are more technology that we can’t live without. In fact,  we are too dependent on technologies that it plays a very major role in our lives and daily activities.

My Reflection

After going through on Week 5, lecturer had explained further regarding Assignment 2.  I could  clearly gain a better understanding on what  to do in Assignment 2.

Although it feels like Assignment 1 has just been submitted; it  feels like time is flying so fast and I have to get started with assignment 2 .

Besides that from my understanding about Assignment 2  from the study desk and lecturer,

 I realize  that Assignment 2 are consists of 40% and divided into 3 main tasks which are;

1) Learning Journal (5%)-  This is to complete on the learning path activities reflecting on my own understanding of ICTs in the classroom.

2) Unit Plan (30%)- A 3 to 5 week unit plan, then create a task sheet and rubric for one of the assessment in the unit plan. Not more than 8 pages.

3) Essay(5%)- There are 500 words for this justification essay. This is to justify the use of ICT underpin the learning and assessment.

Lastly, this is a reminder for myself  before; I submit the assignment. I should  make sure I have attach the assignment with this  3 things:-
1. Cover page and Rubric
2. Unit Plan (Header with Name and Student ID)
3. Essay (Header with Name and Student ID)

Impact of Computer in Early Years Learning

The video above shows;'Computers in Early Childhood Education'
The educator in the video explains reasons to integrate computer into early years learning is due to ICT would fulfill the different types of learning styles. The different types of learning styles refers to Gardner’s multiple intelligence such as; auditory learner, visual learner, or tactile learning. The games with music and attractive pictures would attract the learners to learn. Which is interesting and I feel will be used for teachers as guideline in preparing lesson for children in their classroom. It is important to know the learning styles of our children before we plan our lesson to make the learning effective and meaningful for a child.

Ipad Games

Here's What I Think About Ipad Games:
As we know, Ipad games are new trend among children to spend their free time. Some parents also use Ipad games as a babysitter for their child when they are busy in their working life. However, isn't Ipad games good for children? In my view Ipad game is really a nice tool for kids but I believe sometimes it is depending on the situation and an individual who is keeping in touch with it. This article link below shows parents have responsibility in helping the children while the children are engage in Ipad games and it will influence the effect of the Ipad games effectively. For example, as the adult we can, carefully choose the types of games for the children, limit the time of playing with it and adult intervention with children is the best way. The most important thing is change our perspective about Ipad games. The Ipad games can be use in a positive way to help children learn knowledge and skill from it.  I agree with +misheel kaur  that, children can learn using ICT through educational games ;children can gain skills and knowledge. For example, problem-solving skills, improving their fine-motor skills by using their fingers to play and many more.
